QPD Fund Poncherello and Jon

Tookie looked at this story and I am sure he smelled a rat as soon as he saw the city council agenda. What a huge waste of time and money.

Once again we had our clandestined MicroMini Spy Bug V3.0 - model: MMSB-3 super secret microphones on during this morning's news meeting, this is where the crack reporters decide what should be spoon-fed to the readers. We have also installed a Micro-mini Voice Recognition Identification Technology inside of Doug Wilson's Moustache, this way we can decode who is saying what....
This is a transcript...when you read this imagine Don's voice as Mr. Peterman, Elaine's boss on Seinfeld.

Don Crimm "Reaper": Alright knock off the crap we gotta paper to put out. Anybody have any ideas?

Dave Adam: Well we could do a story on how Doug Bruner is..

DCR: David I told you we had a moratorium on Bruner stories.
David: But..
DCR: NO!
David: Well how bout (phone ringing) hang on I'll get it!

David: Adam here...no, David....I don't know why I have two first names..who is this and what do you want? oh okay..let me put you on hold. Donnie it's Rob Copley he wants to make sure Rodney has the story right.

DCR: This is Don, yes sir Chief sir, no sir. No, no mention of this being a waste of taxpayer money. Yes we made sure we talked about the positive aspects of the program...But maybe you can refresh my memory..what makes this a good program? Oh that's right they look cool and we can use them in parades....We'll make that sound good for you..
What's that...yes we used the quote "at a crossroads" and took out the one about a deadend..is that okay?
Sure...no not a problem..yes you too..Roly Poly at noon sure! I will.. bye.
Rodney!!!!
Funion: Yes Don..
DCR: Did you finish that Motorcycle story?
Funion: yes
DCR: Let me see it..thanks...hmm uhuh...well mmm. oh nice, very good work Rodney. But let's change the headline and takeout the phrase "Bringing out of moth balls" and change that to "Kick-start".That sounds better wouldn't you all agree.

Staff: oh yes sounds great(backslapping or high fives)
DCR: What else do we have?
Kelly: Well we have a story about Fat out of shape firefighters....
DCR: Well we can't say that how about wellness or shaping up
Kelly: Well they have this deal set up with QMG..
DCR: Good QMG...make sure you use them in the story,,uhuh QMG good...go on..
Kelly: So the firefighters get access to a personal trainer and they get evaluated by a doctor to see if the are physically fit.
DCR: Why don't they just give them the same fitness test the applicants take?
Kelly: Um ...But ...QMG and you said..
DCR: Oh yes I forgot QMG good.. yes well forget about the fitness test thing. How can we make this a feel good story instead of a story that sounds like spending more money on firefighter benefits.

Anyway you get the idea..Now it's my turn...these firefighters should stay in shape on their own and I know most of them are. This sounds like a way for the Walker not to have a confrontation with his doughboy crew. Walker, have a spine and tell your 3 or 4 cookie monsters to get in shape. They have a pretty good schedule and probably already have some sort of discount program for a local gym, plus I am sure they have some workout equipment at the station. Get these guys on a treadmill before they have a heart attack at the scene of a fire.
Every time I see these stories about what I feel is a waste of money I just see my taxes getting higher and higher. Please someone at city hall put your foot down and say no. What is it going to take for alderman and the mayor or anyone that has a budget to start some axing on this kind of crap. It all adds up!

It costs about $5,000 per officer for a two-week training session, which includes room, board, travel expenses and materials. Copley said the department is also considering a "train the trainer" program so additional officers could be trained more efficiently in-house.

$5000 ??? Are you freaking serious??
To ride a cycle?? Go the the freaking Drivers License station read the book, take the test. Better yet, take the Cycle SIU course out at the airport. It lasts TWO DAYS !!!

Fire wouldn't it make much more sense TO JUST use the TWO QPD officer's TRAINED to ride the Harleys in parades ?

If not Give 2 shriners a fucking barney fife badge !

5000 for specialized training isn't out of line.

Two weeks of room and board is easily going to run you $1500 at least.

Travel Expenses: depending on how far they have to go, that's not going to be cheap anyway you look at it--even if they all go together in a QPD vehicle which STILL has to be costed. Used to be 33 cents a mile...I know it's more now. I have no idea what the range might be.

Materials aren't cheap for this kind of specialized training. And it IS specialized, which is why you can't just go down and take the SIU course. If that includes bikes to demo on...well, you do the math. $1500 with bikes, half without.

The trainers themselves: Easily $1000. You pay for expertise. Hell, we pay our starting teachers in Quincy 25k. Work it out.

Then there's rental of the facility where the course is given and I bet there are other costs tagged on.

Nope, 5k is a bargain.

But they should send the most experienced current rider and train him to be a trainer. Then everyone can stay home at night and eat their own food and sleep in their own beds paying out of their own pockets and not spend so much of our money.

Ack, I meant to say:

"Then he can come back and train the other officers and they can stay home at night and..."

From Cyberdrive Illinois:

Applicants will want to review the Motorcycle Operator Manual and the Rules of the Road.

Applicants under 18 years of age who present an IDOT Motorcycle Rider Course Student Completion Card will also be required to take the drive examination. Don't forget to bring the proper identification documents and appropriate amount of payment.

Applicants 18 years or older who present an IDOT Motorcycle Rider Course Student Completion Card will not be required to take the drive examination. Don't forget to bring the proper identification documents and appropriate amount of payment.

First time motorcycle applicants who do not hold a valid Illinois driver's license will be required to successfully complete a vision screening, written (basic and motorcycle) exam and a drive examination. Don't forget to bring the proper identification documents and appropriate amount of payment.

Find your nearest Driver Services facility.

Where does it say you must take a $5000 class to get a license? I'm guessing you must work for the city, state or some other agency that has no budget or sense of expenditures.

Why spend the money to TRAIN at all ? They are hardly used now , so when Chief Rob Checkbook thinks we need to have a Officer on a Harley , those 2 can put their asses on the Bike !

Why do we need to spend 1000's when we have 2 already that can fucking ride the BIKE ?

I would rather drop $5000 so Gibson can put the Dog in a side car !

Dear douchebag,
I use the word douchebag because asshat would be a complement. You missed the point. We don't need the fucking Harley Hog Patrol. Axe it from the budget.
We have a total of 5 parades, nobody cares if Ponch and Jon are in the parade anyway, and it is not a PR tool. It is a waste of money. How can I make this clear to you. Hello McFly is anybody in there?
Nuff said, now tell me why we need the stupid Bikes to begin with. It was started as a "no cost to the taxpayer" deal but we knew, they would break it off in our asses at a later date.
Again it all adds up!!!!!$5000 here $5000 there, they throw it around like Adam "Pacman" Jones at a strip club.
Well wait, it's worse than that because at least Pacman got to see some hooters.

Ah, name calling. I suppose I should expect no more from a hydrocephalic brainiac as yourself.

You were bitching about it costing 5000. I pointed out that is not out of line for specialized training. It's NOT just a "go take the SIU course" issue.

I AGREE that we don't need the bikes, but in spite of your effort to obfuscate what you originally said, all you said was "5000 bucks is too much".

You can't even remember what you said and you have the balls to accuse me of missing the point?

I am pretty sure he called you names because spending $10,000 is useless when we only ride the damn bikes for specail events. We got the $$$$ GIVEN to the QPD to train those 2 officers.

So rational minds would say USE THOSE SAME TWO OFFICERS AND PLAN AND ADMINISTER .......NOT SPEND !

Harleys are not needed for enforcing our laws. They look "cool" , but that doesn't keep crime down .

I am 100% positive that cheese ass DARE car didn't keep one kid from rolling a phatty and jamming Pink Floyd

I am not for sure who you are talking to here. Blogger or someone that left a comment. I never talked about a specific dollar amount in the blog. I just said it is a waste of money.
